Hood for the kitchen how to install. How to install the hood in the kitchen? DIY hood installation in the kitchen: installation and connection in accordance with all the rules |
Do-it-yourself hood installation in the kitchen is carried out depending on the type of construction. The efficiency of the device depends on how correctly the device is selected, and then the rules that ensure installation are already in force. Classification of modern exhaust devicesInstalling the hood in the kitchen in a private house, the apartment involves several simple fixtures and connection to the existing ventilation.
At the place where the installation will be carried out, they are divided into wall, corner, built-in, island and fireplace:
Exhaust devices are also classified by:
And do not forget that the installation of an exhaust device with your own hands should be carried out according to certain regulatory documents. And these are not only the rules prescribed by the manufacturer of the equipment, but also the corresponding SNiP - SNiP 41-01-2003 “Heating, ventilation and air conditioning”. Rules for choosing ducts for installing the hoodTo take the exhaust air from the kitchen to the ventilation in the house, air ducts are needed. The air duct is used only for flow structures, but is not provided for recirculation ones. The most popular types of air ducts that ensure the correct installation of exhaust hoods with their own hands (built-in, inclined, and other designs) are:
Work progress when installing a cooker hoodInstallation to make ventilation in the house is carried out according to the following algorithm:
Features of mounting a built-in modelDo-it-yourself installation of a built-in cooker hood provides for the preliminary assembly of the furniture frame, where the device will then be placed.
Before assembling the frame, mark the place of exit, then a hole is drilled in the upper partition for the outlet of the duct. Most often, the ventilation duct or corrugation is carried out precisely through the top, but it can also be led out through the back wall. The bottom of the cabinet is also marked for installation. The dimensions of the hood body are “translated” to the removed bottom panel.
Connection with the existing ventilation system through the corrugation is carried out after fixing the hood in the cabinet. The appliance’s electrical connection wire is also hidden in the cabinet - you cannot hide it directly under the stove in order to avoid overheating. So it’s best to place the outlet behind the back of the cabinet. And do not forget that a productive powerful hood requires an appropriate power outlet and cable in order to avoid overloads in the system. A properly installed hood in the kitchen will help to get rid of such unpleasant phenomena as wallpaper and ceiling yellowed from combustion products, unpleasant odors during cooking, fogged up from steam windows, and continue to prevent their appearance. Kitchen area and hood powerInstalling a kitchen hood with your own hands is possible for any man, provided that the selection rules, installation and fastening of the device are carefully studied beforehand. It is also important to consider the size of the kitchen equipment - the width of the hood cannot be less than the surface of the stove. The power of the device is an important factor. In this case, the rules dictate the size of the kitchen itself:
Calculation of the height of the hood over the stoveThe height at which the hood should be attached to the wall is determined by two important points:
As a rule, the instructions for the device indicate the distance at which the hood should be mounted from the stove. On average, it is 65-90 cm.
Secrets of installing a hood (video)Installing the hood in the cabinetInstallation of the built-in hood is carried out in ordinary kitchen Cabinet. If you have certain skills, you can mount the exhaust panel on a telescopic retractable mechanism. In this case, when the device is not used, it is easy to hide from prying eyes. It’s faster and easier to install a static model in a cabinet that hangs on the wall above the stove. For work you will need:

How to install a corrugation on a hoodThe technology of installing the corrugation on the hood has a number of its subtleties:
Installing a duct for a kitchen hood (video)Mounting a fireplace hoodFireplace or dome hoods are the most common choice for the kitchen. Installation of the fireplace hood is carried out on the wall, since the kitchen cabinet for this purpose will not work because of the significant size of the device. However, due to the wide variety of shapes and sizes, this type can be easily fit into any interior without harming the overall design. For work you will need:
Proceed to install the hood:
Duct installationWhen the ventilation hole is located near the stove, installing a hood in the kitchen with your own hands is not particularly difficult. Otherwise, there is a need to mount the duct. It is made from various materials, and each of them has its own characteristics:
Corrugated duct made of aluminum. This allows you to stretch and compress the product, bend at the desired angle. Before mounting, experts recommend stretching such an air duct to the maximum, and cutting off the excess pipe. Thus, the performance of the system is increased, since the folds will not create resistance to the air masses passing through it. The advantage of the duct made of steel and plastic is that they are easy to hide from prying eyes behind hinged cabinets. Rectangular structures are made of sectional parts that simply assemble the required length. During installation, it is important to consider the following points:
How to install a hood in the kitchen (video)Installation of the hood will require some effort and material costs. However, it’s worth it, because such a device will not only protect the kitchen from frequent repairs, but also significantly improve the quality of life and preserve the health of your family members. The hood can be installed in a cabinet, as hidden or leave it open. Further care of the device consists in cleaning and, if necessary, replacing the duct with a new one. Attention, only TODAY! The question of how to mount the hood in the kitchen, today worries many. When making repairs in the kitchen, in most cases people think about how to create a ventilation system more efficient, because it is not just convenient, but even necessary. A person who cooks regularly spends about five hours a day in the kitchen and breathes in harmful fumes, including chad and cinder. In addition, during cooking, tiny particles and fats are released into the air from food, which also adversely affects human health. The only way out in this situation is to buy and install the hood, since neither traditional ventilation systems nor simple ventilation will provide the desired effect. About how to properly install the hood in the kitchen and will be discussed in this article. Hood selectionOne of the most important systems in a person’s home, ensuring the comfort of his life, is ventilation. In a sufficiently ventilated room, the air is clean and fresh, which is why it is simply pleasant to be here, while stuffiness can cause negative reactions of the body, up to general weakness and dizziness. Cooker hoods are one of the main ventilation components, since cooking is associated with increased air temperature and harmful emissions, including also very unpleasant odors. The main objective of the hood is to clean the air in the room. And the cleaning process itself can occur in different ways. The fastening of the hood for the kitchen directly depends on this. So, there are two types of work of modern range hoods. Types of hoods
Hoods of various types. Bottom - filtering. Naturally, you do not need to connect such a hood to the ventilation shaft. The only installation item provides for wall mounting. The advantages of such mechanisms are their price, stylish design, low noise and ease of installation. The disadvantages of this type of hoods include a relatively low efficiency, because during recycling it is not enough to completely clean the room.
Such devices are mounted on the wall or directly on the ceiling above the stove. Ventilation pipes can be masked with the help of hanging cabinets, which allows you to partially or even completely hide their presence. Such hoods require more serious installation work, but the instruction is not too complicated. What to look for when buying a hood If you have chosen the second type of device, then you need to consider the following factors when purchasing it:
How to fix a kitchen hood - a photo of properly installed equipment. Mounting the hoodBefore connecting the hood in the kitchen, you must make sure of the following:
You can read more about how high to hang the hood in the kitchen in the manufacturer's instructions. By default, it is customary to place it at a distance of 70-80 cm from the surface of the plate. The decision on what height to hang the hood in the kitchen also depends on the ratio of the size of the stove to the hood itself, since its surface should absorb all the steam and fumes.
Ventilation hood connectionSince it is not difficult to mount the hood in the kitchen, you can deal with this procedure yourself. But it’s better to take an assistant.
On average, installation time takes 1 - 1.5 hours. Hood Service
Extraneous odors, excess moisture, formed during cooking on the stove, are removed from the room. Therefore, the installation of the hood in the kitchen is an important point on which the level of comfort in the kitchen room depends. Depending on the type of cooker hood, the installation methods may vary. Of course, you can invite a specialist to do the work if the price of installing the hood in the kitchen suits you. In the case of installation in a ready-made ventilation system, the cost of work will be about $ 25-35. If you have to bring the device outside the house, then the cost of installing a kitchen hood will increase by about half. All hoods by type of placement are divided into the following categories:
The installation cost of the hood directly depends on the complexity of the installation. 2 Island hood mountAn exhaust device for a freestanding cooker is mounted by suspension. Since the hood has a certain weight, it must be fixed to a solid ceiling surface. If you have installed a suspended or suspended ceiling, then the fasteners must pass through these coatings. This implies an appropriate length of fixtures. Ideally, an extractor hood is installed first, a ventilation duct is laid, electricity is supplied, and then the ceiling is mounted. But you can mount the hood on the finished ceiling. True, in some cases, for example, on stretch ceiling, it is advisable to entrust the work to specialists. This will prevent damage to the ceiling. The cost of installing hoods in the kitchen by specialists will depend on the complexity of the work and its features. For island hoods, the amount will be around 5000 rubles, while for ordinary wall and small domed hoods, the price ranges from 1000 to 2000 rubles. depending on installation features. 2.1 Mounting the hood to the wallIt does not matter whether the installation of an inclined hood in the kitchen or a hood with a horizontal surface, the principle of its attachment will be the same. Usually there are mounting holes on the back of the device. It is best to attach the hood to the wall on long dowels by using a punch. Mounting on anchors is undesirable, since then it will be impossible to remove the hood. 2.2 Duct connectionThe air duct can be made in two versions: a plastic box and a corrugated aluminum pipe. The first one looks better, and the second is more convenient and simple to install. When installing built-in kitchen hoods, fixing the duct is complicated by the presence of a cabinet. To connect the duct, you need to make a hole in the upper part of the cabinet, and then pass the pipe there. The installation of built-in kitchen hoods has one drawback - the duct takes up free space in the cabinet. Connecting the duct to a wall or island hood is very simple. Using a clamp, the exhaust duct is attached to the hole in the exhaust hood. It is recommended to apply a layer of silicone at the junction of the channel to provide better traction. 2.3 Removing air ducts to ventilationThe connection of a kitchen hood to ventilation can be carried out in two versions:
2.4 Connecting the hood to the power supplyThe installation of the hood in the kitchen ends with its connection to the mains. The exhaust device operates in conditions of high humidity, therefore, the risk of short circuit to the device body is increased. To ensure the safety of people and to prevent fire, it is recommended to connect an exhaust fan through a ground wire and a circuit breaker. If the sockets in the house are equipped with a grounding wire, then no additional steps need to be performed. If the usual two-wire wiring is carried out, then an additional grounding wire must be laid.
If a dishwasher is installed in your kitchen, then it should also be connected to this outlet. To do this, you can install a twin outlet. 2.5 Installing an exhaust device in the bathroomIn addition to the kitchen, it can be installed in the bathroom. But, unlike the kitchen, an exhaust fan is installed in the bathroom. This is quite enough to remove excess moisture. Installation of the hood in the bathroom is made in the ventilation hole. For this, any fan with sufficient power is suitable. The market is replete with devices that have special spacers for ventilation ducts. Installation of the hood in the bathroom is carried out in the following order:
2.6 Hood for gas boilerAs a rule, gas boilers are installed in private homes, so the installation of the exhaust gas boiler is reduced to the removal of the duct into the street. Best option this will be the installation. For such devices, two types of ventilation are provided: natural and forced. If the boiler is low-power, then a conventional chimney that removes combustion products naturally can be enough. In the case of using a powerful unit, the installation of a hood for a gas boiler includes the removal of vertical and horizontal ducts with an exhaust fan outside the house. A rare kitchen set without built-in appliances. The compact built-in range hood has become such a popular piece of furniture that almost every upper tier is equipped with it. Do-it-yourself hood installation is relatively simple if you act sequentially and follow our instructions. Furniture design requirementsThe very design of the cabinet under the built-in hood is quite trivial. It has two side walls with a total depth of the upper tier, fastened by an upper horizontal partition and without a bottom. There should also be an internal shelf located between the walls. It is better not to order an additive for this part during manufacture: four confirmations can also be drilled manually in place, but then the hood will be installed as tightly as possible. You can add a few more details to equip the internal space of the cabinet, we will talk about them later. The situation with dimensions is more complicated. In order for the appliance to fit harmoniously after installation without creating significant gaps and gaps, the hood or its drawing with the main overall dimensions should be on hand at the time of furniture production. The size of the hood is selected in accordance with the width of the stove or hob, in fact the case is a couple of centimeters larger. The widest lower part defines the main dimensions of the cabinet. The outer size of the cabinet must exactly match the width of the hood. The depth of the furniture case may be 50-60 mm more, in this case the hood is shifted to the front edge, and the open area at the back is closed by a thin fastening partition. Please note that the housing of the hidden exhaust unit has a gap of 10-15 mm from the cabinet walls - this is one of the most important conditions for installing built-in electrical appliances. With the height of the cabinet is still less clear. In general, the distance between the tabletop and the bottom of the upper tier is from 50 to 65 cm, while the recommended distance between the hood and the stove is 75-80 cm for gas and 60-65 cm for electric hobs. It turns out that the section with the hood usually falls out of the general row, the cabinet height can be 80-120 mm less than the others. Extractor hoodDepending on the type of housing, there are two ways to secure the hood. The first and simplest case is the vertical orientation of the technical unit. The hood in this case is attached to the wall, and the cabinet plays a purely decorative function, hiding the installation and all its technical details. When installing the vertical unit, you only need to pre-hang the case without doors, attach a hood from the bottom and outline the mounting holes. After that, in the shelf you need to make a jigsaw cutout for the exhaust duct, which is usually located close to the wall. Hoods with a horizontal arrangement of the technical unit are mounted according to a slightly more complex scheme. It is good if a card or a marking template for fixing holes is attached to the instructions. Otherwise, you will first have to measure the upper wall of the hood housing, starting from the edges and taking into account the gaps between the hood and the cabinet walls. The task is simple: outline 4-6 holes for the mounting screws and mark the center of the hole for the exhaust duct. He, which is typical for horizontal hoods, is not located close to the wall, so the hole is not cut from the edge. The easiest way to tightly fasten the hood is to first screw the shelf to it, then turn the cabinet over and insert the resulting assembly from above. It remains only to mark and drill holes, and then pull the shelf to the walls with confirmations. Rarely, but it still happens that the hood does not have regular mounting holes. In this case, its body is fixed with ordinary self-tapping screws with a frequent thread pitch (as for GCR). It is only necessary to make sure that the tip does not damage anything from the internal equipment. When the hood is in recirculation mode, no additional steps are required. Exhaust air is directed inside the cabinet, which has enough natural clearances. In extreme cases, the duct runs along the entire height of the cabinet and ends immediately behind its upper wall with a simple strainer. However, if the exhaust air is planned to be discharged into an external ventilation duct, installation of an air duct will be required. The first thing that comes to mind is an aluminum corrugated pipe. It is quite convenient to use: it is easily deformed, it needs to be joined in only two places: on the flanges of the hood and ventilation duct it is simply crimped with screw clamps. A closer look reveals a number of flaws in the corrugation. The internal ribbed walls create high aerodynamic drag, as a result, the real hood power may be lower than expected. Grease inevitably accumulates on internal surfaces, dust adheres, and with intensive air movement the corrugation makes a lot more noise than other types of channels. Plastic ventilation ducts have a more noble appearance, are less prone to clogging and look much more harmonious when laying on cabinet furniture. Sometimes a corrugation is given a rectangular cross section for greater compactness, but this, as you know, is not the most technologically advanced approach. The main disadvantages of rigid plastic ducts are slightly higher cost than corrugations, as well as the obvious complexity of installation. But there is another side: such a channel can be drawn directly inside the cabinets of the upper tier, after making through holes. You can also lay a canal along the "roof" of the upper tier: it will be pressed tightly to the cabinets and will not be visible from a height of human growth. We mentioned additional cabinet details for a built-in range hood. The lower part, where the technical unit is located, can be closed with a blank partition. Another solution is also widespread: this part is closed by a small cut-out of the facade material, which is fixed permanently, and above, where there is still some free space in the cabinet, there is a door of any convenient type. Inside the cabinet, you can also collect a small case in which the exhaust channel will be placed, and the remaining space divided by a pair of shelves. No one denies the difficulty of installing a rigid duct: both precise trimming and the correct selection of adapters and connections are needed. But the result is definitely worth it: the channel will be compact, neat and in no way limit the functionality of the hood. Electrical connectionThe built-in range hood has a side or rear terminal for the power cord. It is enough to plug the cord into a power outlet and you can immediately use the equipment. Hoods with built-in lighting may require pre-installation of lamps. It is better to do this after the installation is completed, so as not to damage the lighting devices through negligence. Difficulties begin when there is no power outlet in the immediate vicinity for connection. In this case, the most convenient way to apply power is to increase the wire. The cores must be twisted, soldered and insulated with a heat shrink tube. Often the most convenient route for laying is the ventilation duct itself. The wire must be pulled into the hood housing and then laid inside the chimney. To withdraw the cable from the duct, a hole with a diameter of a millimeter less than the thickness of the conductor is sufficient so that the passage does not have to be additionally sealed. Option to address the issue of lack of powerMost low-cost built-in hoods are compact, but this advantage is at the expense of the power of the air pump. This can be eliminated by a simple revision. It is about installing an additional duct fan anywhere in the exhaust duct. This will require only a couple of adapters and the laying of the fan power cord in parallel with the channel or inside it. Installation can be made in order to increase power, that is, taking into account the parallel operation of a regular air pump and an additional duct fan. It is also possible to completely replace the built-in fan with an external one with access to a power of 1500-2000 m 3 / h against a standard capacity of 800-1000 m 3 / h - these are the characteristics that are typical for most inexpensive equipment. It is worth remembering that the switch of multi-mode hoods may not be designed for parallel connection of an additional fan. If you can’t figure out the scheme, it’s better to install an additional housing switch, since you only need to drill one additional hole in any convenient place. |
