Pipe bending six-position mechanism VMS-26A  Designed for bending water and gas pipes into staples, wefts or cold bends without filler. It consists of a bed, a rocker mechanism, an electric motor with a gearbox, a plate and a slider.
  A cylindrical gear is mounted on the low-speed shaft of the gearbox, which transmits the rotation of the gear of the eccentric shaft, the rotational movement of which is converted into the translational movement of the slider by the wings. The slider walks in the guides, adjustable squeeze bolts. Bending rollers are reinforced on the slider and plate.
The mechanism has three positions for bending pipes of each nominal diameter. To remove the pipes after bending, special pins are installed on the slider and plate.

Multiposition mechanism STD-102  Designed for bending bends and half-bends from water and gas pipes. It consists of a bed, a drive, a crank mechanism, a table with a slider and electrical equipment. The quality of pipe bending depends on the skill of the operator, the choice of tools and equipment, as well as which machine is chosen for processing. The pipe bending machine can be manual, semi-automatic and automatic. When choosing a new or used pipe bending machine, it is necessary to consider: the material of the pipe being bent, its wall thickness and outer diameter, the number and radius of bends. Important are the required quality of processing, and the necessary productivity of the machine, and the financial capabilities of the buyer.

Key selection criteria

If you need to get a large bending radius (more than 5 pipe diameters) when machining aluminum profiles, channels, angles, etc., the best option would be a three-roll pipe bending machine.

For bending non-ferrous metal and stainless steel products with a diameter of 6 to 22 mm, cutting machines and end-forming machines are used. Such equipment is in demand in the production of heating, water and gas appliances, air conditioners and compressors.

Homemade pipe bender is sure to come in handy on the farm

To process pipes with a diameter of up to 25 mm, you can make a pipe bending machine yourself. You will need: a concrete slab, a drill for concrete and several metal pins. The procedure is as follows.

  1. On the plate they draw a dimensional grid of 5x5 cm.
  2. At the intersection points, deep holes are drilled into which the pins are driven.
  3. Then the pipe is inserted between the teeth and bent with the desired radius.

In conclusion, we conclude that the automatic pipe bending machine is indispensable in mass and mass production. The programming process makes it possible to see the finished product in a three-dimensional image. If you need a budget machine for bending one radius, the best option would be equipment with a hydraulic drive. And to bend several pipes, you can make a home-made device.

In the cold state, the pipes are bent on manual and drive pipe bending mechanisms. For manual pipe bending, Volnov's machines are used, and for mechanized pipes, VMS-16, VMS-23V, VMS-26, VMS-28 and GSTM-21 mechanisms are used. The inner diameter of the roller of the pipe bending mechanisms should correspond to the bending radius adopted in the calculation of the workpiece.

Volnov's manual machines (Fig. 51) are designed for bending pipes with a diameter of up to 20 mm. The machine is attached to the workbench using a hub and plate 1. On the same axis of the hub and plate there is a fixed roller template 6 with a clamp 7. The movable roller 2 is fixed in a bracket 4 with a handle 5. The pipe is bent around the fixed roller, so the radius of curvature of the bend approximately corresponds to the radius this video.

The pipe 5, which must be bent, is inserted between the rollers so that its end fits into the collar 7. After that, using the handle 3, the bracket is rotated around the non-movable roller 6 until the desired bend is obtained, then it is returned to its original position and the pipe is removed. Clamping the collar is recommended for the longer end of the pipe, and to bend the short one.

On Volnov’s machine, bends, staples, ducks and barrels are bent without stuffing pipes with sand. Combined Volnov machines with double rollers are also used for bending pipes with a diameter of 15 and 20 mm on one machine and with triple rollers for bending pipes with a diameter of 15, 20 and 25 mm.

The VMS-23V pipe bending machine (Fig. 52) is designed for bending steel water and gas pipes with a diameter of 15-32 mm. The machine consists of a cast bed 1, a gearbox 2 and a working mechanism 3 located on the top of the bed. On the working mechanism, motionless 4 and movable 5 rollers are pyramidally located. Each pair of fixed and movable rollers serves for bending pipes of a certain diameter without changing the machine. A flanged electric motor is attached to the outside of the bed, from which the working mechanism rotates together with a pyramid of movable rollers through a gearbox, bevel and cylindrical gears.

The VMS-26A mechanism is a multi-position high-speed mechanism that serves for bending bends, ducks, staples with a diameter of 15 and 20 mm.

Currently, mass production of the VMS-28 pipe-bending mechanism has been launched, designed for bending pipes with a diameter of 15 to 32 mm. This mechanism is based on the VMS-23V mechanism and differs from it in that it has a self-locking device that provides bending at a given angle. Bending error no more than 5 °.

The GSTM-21 pipe bending mechanism (Fig. 53) is designed for bending steel water and gas pipes with a diameter of 25 to 60 mm and seamless pipes with walls up to 4 mm thick, a diameter of 34 to 89 mm in the cold state using mandrels.

In the frame1 of the GSTM-21 machine there are a worm pair and a main drive shaft. The rotation of the disk of the bending rollers 2 is transmitted from the electric motor 5 through a V-belt drive and a gearbox. The marked pipe is installed in the creek of the roller and fixed with an eccentric clamp. Then, a screw 4 is pressed against a sliding replacement block placed in the rod 3. Next, turn on the electric motor and turn the clutch engagement knob. The bending roller begins to rotate, bends the pipe and at the same time pulls it from the mandrel. After bending the pipe to a given angle, the machine automatically turns off and the pipe is removed.

The construction mechanism VMS-16 (Fig. 54, a, b) is designed for cutting pipes with a diameter of 15-50 mm and threading them, as well as for bending pipes with a diameter of 25-50 mm using appropriate tools and devices.

The VMS-16 construction mechanism is equipped with a gearbox, an electric motor / power of 1.7 kW and a rotation speed of 1420 rpm. Using a worm pair located in box 2, the electric motor drives the hollow spindle. A three-jaw chuck 3 is mounted at one end of the spindle, and a faceplate with three guide dies for the pipe is attached to the other. The spindle switch 8 can communicate the right or left rotation. The mechanism is mounted on four removable legs 7. Two retractable handles 5 are used to carry the mechanism, in addition, they are also used to stop the working tool.

The history of production at the Moscow Mechanical Plant No. 3 of pipe bending machines has been going on for more than 40 years, such machines have been produced since 1973. One of the first manufactured pipe bending machines was the Navy-23V and was already exported at that time. The machine had fixed and movable rollers of four sizes ½ ”, ¾”, 1 ”, 11/4” located pyramidal. The rotation frequency of the bending tool is 4.28 rpm with an electric drive power of 3 kW. The machine was made in a cast-iron cast-iron case with overall dimensions of 1054x725x490. The narrow specialization of the machine did not allow bending pipes with a diameter of 11/2 ”, 2”. The VMS-23V pipe bending machine was produced for about ten years until 1983.

The next pipe bending machine manufactured by the Moscow Mechanical Plant No. 3 was STD-439, which was produced since 1983. The machine, like the previous one, was made in a cast iron case. To install it, a specially prepared foundation was required. The pipe bending machine was equipped with a worm gear and a tool drive from an external gear gear. The pads, as with the previous machine, remained pyramidal, also the rollers had four sizes ½ ”, ¾”, 1 ”, 11/4” and did not allow bending pipes with a diameter of 11/2 ”, 2”. The rotational speed of the bending tool increased to 6 rpm, but at the same time, the overall dimensions increased 858x590x1115. Electric drive power 3 kW. The STD-439 pipe bending machine was produced for about six years until 1989.

In 1989, the STD-22012 pipe bending machine was launched into production, which was manufactured in two versions: with a pyramidal roller block for bending pipes by rolling from four sizes ½ ”, ¾”, 1 ”, 11/4” and for the first time with a head for winding pipes 11/2 ", 2". The bed has become welded. The pipe bending machine was equipped as well as the previous worm gear, but the gear of rotation of the bending tool was already with internal gearing. A mechanical brake was added. The rotational speed of the bending tool by the run-in method is 5 rpm, and by the winding method - 2.5 rpm. Electric drive power increased to 4 kW. Overall dimensions increased and amounted to 925x690x1100. The mass of the machine reached 850 kg. The STD-22012 pipe bending machine was produced for a short time, only about three years before 1991.

Beginning in 1991, machines began to be developed by the design department of the Moscow Mechanical Plant. In 1991, the generation model was replaced by an improved model of the STD-22012U tube bending machine. For bending pipes, an extended range break-in method was used for the first time due to replaceable blocks and rollers. A wheel with internal gearing is installed on a welded bed with a worm gearbox and the carriage was first developed with the possibility of adjusting the interaxal distance. From the previous machine, the lower part remained, as well as the mechanical brake. The upper part was improved, which made it possible to expand the range of bent pipes from 1/2 ”to 2”. The rotational speed of the bending tool remained 5 rpm with an electric drive power of 4 kW. Overall dimensions have changed in height due to the new upper part to 925x690x1000. The machine weight has decreased to 780 kg. The STD-22012 pipe bending machine was produced for about three years until 1993.

Along with the release of the STD-22012U pipe bending machine, from 1991 a series of UGS-1, UGS-2, UGS-3 machines were generally released to produce optimal solutions. The machine also performed bending over an extended range of ½ ”to 2” with a variable center distance range. Welded bed, worm gear, without mechanical brake. A series of machines was distinguished by kinematics of gears, gearboxes and electric motors. The rotation frequency of the bending tool is 2 ... 4 rpm with an electric drive power of 3 ... 4 kW. Overall dimensions have changed to 800x700x1000. The weight of the machine has noticeably decreased to 550 ... 650 kg. This experimental series of pipe bending machines was produced until 1995. In the same series in 1994, the UGS-4 pipe-cutting machine was temporarily produced. The UGS-4 working table was a workbench, inside of which there was a rotary drive of a bending tool, which included a motor with a belt drive, a worm gearbox of its own production, a screw pair with a gear rack, a preliminary gear and a main gear with external gearing. Made 2 prototypes. During the tests, a low efficiency of the worm and screw pair (own manufacture) was revealed. Due to the increase in power from 3 to 5.5 kW, ½ ”and ¾” pipes bent, then the frame twisted effect.

Due to the complexity of manufacturing a screw pair, a worm gear and a significant weighting of the frame on the UGS-4, it was decided in 1994 to launch the UGS-5 model with a fundamentally new layout and good efficiency in the pilot production. Based on proven technical solutions, starting with the STD 22012Udo UGS-3 machine, the developed machine of the new UGS-5 model combined high torque with optimal engine power with good efficiency and high productivity due to the rotation speed of the bending tool - 3 rpm. The machine was equipped with an octagonal bed with a planetary gearbox, the main gear with internal gearing and the carriage with a variable center distance made it possible to make the machine universal and multifunctional. The range of bending pipes is ½ ”, ¾”, 1 ”, 11/4”, 11/2 ”, 2 " Dimensions were significantly reduced to 720x700x900, as well as the weight of the machine for the first time dropped below 400 kg and amounted to 330 kg. The model was so successful that competitors even began to copy and fake it. Often identical copies appeared on sale. Such a machine was produced for about 12 years until 2006, but time required modernization and improvement in the field of electronics and automation.

In this regard, since 2007, a new sixth-generation UGS-6/1 pipe bending machine has been launched in production. A distinctive feature of the machine was the transition to two modes of operation: automatic and manual. In automatic mode, the bending process was first carried out by an electronic control system according to a given program. For bending steel pipes, the machine was equipped with sets in an extended range from 3/8 ”to 2”. The machine had a carriage with the ability to adjust the center distance. Torque created a progressive planetary gearbox, made according to the 3K scheme. The machine was equipped with a dynamic braking system for the main drive. The rotation frequency of the bending tool is 3.2 rpm with an electric drive power of 3 kW. Overall dimensions 630x790x980. With a control panel, for convenience located on a swivel arm, the dimensions were 630x900x1140. Machine weight 330 kg. The UGS-6/1 pipe bending machine was produced for about five years until 2012.

Since 2012, an improved model of the sixth generation UGS-6 / 1A pipe bending machine was launched into production. From the previous model, the machine was distinguished by a modern microprocessor-based control system for the angle of bending, in the composition of which the encoder was first introduced. The control panel began to settle down directly on a bed. For the convenience of the operator, the machine began to be equipped with a tray for laying bending equipment. Overall dimensions 630x780x1100. The weight of the machine has dropped to 320 kg.

Starting from 1991, pipe bending machines were developed by the Chief Designer of the Moscow Mechanical Plant No. 3 M. Malygin. Every year pipe bending machines are constantly being upgraded and improved. Since 2015, the UGS - 6 / 1A has been equipped with a modernized stationary control panel, and the possibility of remote control using the radio channel is also provided. The modernized electronics of the machine began to allow bending with high accuracy and stable repeatability of curved parts with a minimum change in the geometry of the profile without the formation of corrugations, kinks and other defects by a given angle of up to 180 degrees with an error of up to 0.5 degrees. Machine control is possible both in manual and automatic modes, and in automatic mode the bending process is carried out by an electronic control system, according to a given program. The power control board has been upgraded to provide higher reliability and stable operation in the mains. The machine is equipped with a dynamic braking system for the main drive.

Due to interchangeable technological equipment, it is possible to use the machine when performing various bending operations. The standard equipment includes six interchangeable blocks and rollers designed for bending water and gas pipes in accordance with GOST 3262-75, with a diameter of ½ ”to 2” and wall thickness from 2 to 4.5 mm. By special order, the machine is additionally equipped with accessories for bending long sections: round , square and rectangular rolled products, strips, as well as the possibility of bending reinforcement, which is relevant for the use of the machine at construction sites. Maintenance of the UGS-6 / 1A pipe bending machine

   To ensure reliable and durable operation of the UGS-6 / 1A, it is necessary to carry out maintenance of the machine, which consists of daily technical inspection and periodic maintenance.
Daily technical inspection.
   During a daily technical inspection (ETO), the following work is performed:
   - external inspection of the nodes of the pipe bending machine, if necessary, tighten the fasteners; - checking the health of grounding and connecting to the network, troubleshoot;
   - check for lubrication on the lead screw and the slide guide of the central roller, lubricate if necessary according to the lubrication schedule.
   At the end of work on a pipe bending machine, you must:
   - clean the machine of scale and wipe;
   - Lightly grease the unpainted surfaces with I-20A oil.

Periodic maintenance.
   The frequency of maintenance in accordance with the requirements for the nodes and parts of the machine during operation.
   During periodic maintenance, ETO work and additional work are carried out depending on the frequency, (see lubrication table):
   - At least once a month, inspect and lubricate gears, spindles and guides;
   - at least once every six months, lubricate the bearing assemblies, check for serviceability, as well as adjust the clearance and broach;
   - annually check the availability of oil in the gearmotors, top up if necessary;
   - during the period of operation of the machine for more than 5 years, a complete diagnosis and assessment of wear of components and parts is carried out, if necessary, they are replaced, as well as oil replacement in the crankcase of the main drive gear motor.

Various variations of pipe bending machine

It is extremely difficult to bend a pipe manually even with the help of massive stationary devices, and there is no need to talk about bending accuracy. Once upon a time, a manual pipe bender was invented, which is still used today, especially in private. But, unfortunately, not every pipe is subject to it, and the pace of work is quite low. On an industrial scale, something more thorough, solid is required.

Today, the industry has mastered a number of pipe bending machines of various modifications. These are pipe benders of stationary and mobile type. This equipment is divided into units with manual hydraulic drive, machine tools with electric drive and universal models for spiral-ring bending of pipes.

In the field of housing and communal services, as well as in industry, stationary pipe bending machines have become more widespread, while in the construction site a mobile pipe bending machine is a regular of work sites. Usually, a “mobile phone” machine is in demand where it was necessary to bend the pipe quickly, without being distracted from the main work.

An electric pipe bender is designed for the processing of rolled steel, characterized by high strength, namely: steel reinforcement and rods, shaped pipe and rolled metal with a rectangular and circular cross-section. The mentioned pipe bending machine allows you to cope with a large amount of material in a relatively short period of time. Representatives of this category of equipment are the UGS-5 pipe bender and the UGS-6 pipe bender, which bend the profile pipe at a given angle by rolling it around the block, while the material is not exposed to thermal effects.
