Do-it-yourself swing gates made of corrugated sheets. Installation of swing gates Do-it-yourself swing gates made from corrugated sheets

Corrugated sheets and profiled pipes made of light metal are cheap materials, which allow you to create beautiful and durable fences on your suburban area. And unusual design ideas for gates and wickets made of corrugated sheets will make the exterior more original. Depending on the complexity of the project, their installation may take several days; in the simplest case, it can be completed in a day.

Peculiarities

Corrugated sheeting is a thin metal sheet with a thickness of 0.4 to 0.8 mm, and the profile has a ribbed structure. The metal can be galvanized, coated with a powder or polymer layer in a variety of colors.

There are the following types of profiled sheets:

  • roofing;
  • wall;
  • universal.

For cladding fences and gates at the dacha, it is best to use the last two types.

Each type of corrugated sheet has letter and numerical markings. Sheets with the designation C are suitable for fences. The numerical value after the letter indicates the height of the rib in mm. For example, C18 is a profiled wall sheet with an edge height of 18 mm. The larger this value, the stiffer the sheet, therefore, the structure will be more stable. For strong fences and gates, it is worth taking grades C10-C20 with a thickness of at least 0.5 mm.

The frame of the gate and wicket is made of galvanized metal pipes. It is best to take them with a rectangular profile. The most successful solution is metal slats 60 by 40 mm with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm. Sash patterns may be different, but in any case, in addition to the frame itself, it is necessary to additionally install transverse or inclined stiffeners. For them, profiles of 40 by 20 mm with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm are taken.

Many people choose a gate design made from corrugated sheets for their dachas.

This solution has several advantages:

  • ease of manufacture and installation;
  • low cost of material;
  • due to the light weight of the corrugated sheeting, there is less load on the gates and they are easier to open;
  • it is possible to make an automatic opening using an electric drive;
  • galvanized metal is not subject to deformation or harmful natural factors.

The most important advantage of swing gates made of corrugated sheets with a wicket is that, due to the ease of processing of the material, it is possible to make original designs of any size.

Constructions

To make the simplest gate design from corrugated sheets, you will need 2 swinging doors on a strong base. As a support on which they are attached using hinges, it is necessary to use steel pipes - rectangular, round or T-shaped, which go deep into the ground with the pouring of a concrete foundation. The gate frame can be with or without a top horizontal crossbar. In the first case, the entire frame will be more rigid, but then there will be a height limit and tall cars will not be able to drive into the yard.

Gate leaves, in addition to the frame itself, have jumpers to provide greater rigidity. They can be positioned horizontally, obliquely or crosswise; which pattern to make depends on the preferences of the owner. The main thing is that there are enough of them for a rigid structure, for example, with a height of 2 m, it is enough to install a pair of horizontal jumpers at the same distance from the edges of the frame.

The base on which the corrugated gate frame is attached can be made in the form of massive pillars made of facing brick, concrete or rubble. In this case, the entire structure takes on a completely different impressive appearance and becomes much stronger. And profiled sheets can be combined with almost any building materials.

The metal lock for such double-leaf gates is installed on the inside at the bottom of the leaves. It is designed to fix the gate in the closed position.

After installing the entire structure, it is worth making recesses on the ground for its rods.

The lock for the swing structure can be chosen from several options. The simplest type is a metal latch, which can be found in any hardware store or made yourself from scrap materials. Another method of secure closure is a sliding lock made of hinges and a galvanized gate valve with a handle. If you don’t want to be tricky, then you can simply weld two hinges to the doors from the inside and hang a suitable padlock on them.

An interesting solution would be a car gate project with a built-in wicket door. This design will save space for the opening in the fence, but the frame will have a more complex appearance. For the wicket frame, additional vertical jumpers must be made in one of the doors; it is worth creating a detailed drawing with dimensions in advance and calculating the entire load.

Single-leaf swing gates for cars are rarely made: one large sash carries too much load. And they are more difficult to open, so it is better to use the traditional option.

The ideas for sliding car gates made of galvanized profiles, which move in a vertical plane along the fence to open and close, are original. The difficulty is that they need to install guide rails and weld rollers for movement, and use springs or shock absorbers for a smooth ride. But it will be easy to open them, they save free space.

Sliding gates are notable because they are easier to make automatic than swing gates. It is enough to mount the electric drive and connect it to the moving mechanism. Operation can be achieved completely remotely and the gate can be opened/closed without leaving the car, which is especially convenient in bad weather.

Another advantage of sliding gates is that one leaf is enough for them. You just need to weld a frame from a metal profile, add stiffeners and cover the frame with corrugated sheets.

A nice gate design made from corrugated sheets can be created by hanging a small roof or arch made of the same material over them. In addition to beauty, it will also be useful - to protect the lock, latch and other metal parts from rain.

Manufacturing

You can make an entrance gate to your dacha using an unusual design with your own hands. There are various drawings and diagrams with dimensions for any personal plot; you just need to stock up on materials and do simple work.

For manufacturing you will need the following tools:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver;
  • tape measure, pencil, level;
  • brush for priming and painting.

As materials, you need to stock up on the required amount of metal profiles, corrugated sheets, screws and bolts. If a fence made of this material has already been installed around the site, then the corrugated sheeting for the gate is chosen in the same color. You need to select suitable hinges that can withstand the weight of the future gate, lock and bolts. If the structure has a built-in gate, then a bolt with hinges is also selected for it.

First of all, pieces are cut to size from the metal profile using a grinder, then the frame for the sashes is assembled on a flat surface. First, the corners are lightly tacked by welding, then they are rechecked for height, length and diagonal. Jumpers are welded inside the frame for rigidity, then, if necessary, hinges, locks, and latches. After the frame is ready, it is coated with an anti-corrosion solution, primed and painted. After assembling the main part, the remaining structures are attached: the roof, arched openings, and decorative elements.

If steel pipes are used to install gate supports, they must be buried to a depth sufficient to support the weight of the entire structure.

Although the corrugated sheet is not such a heavy material, for the height of the doors to be 2 m, it is necessary to deepen the supports at least 0.7 m into the ground. For each, a hole measuring 200 by 200 mm is dug, after the pipes are placed in it, it is filled with concrete. The solution should be reinforced with reinforcement.

For gate supports made of brick, concrete or natural stone, it is also worth using a reliable foundation with a depth of at least 1.5 m. Particular care must be taken to maintain the vertical level of all pillars. In general, when installing gates, you need to reliably double-check all dimensions and positions; this primarily determines how easily they will open.

Installation

The most reasonable option is to simultaneously build a fence and a gate with a gate for a private house. Firstly, it is possible to calculate and buy the required quantity of the same profile sheet both by marking and color. Secondly, you can immediately imagine and implement a single project where the fence and gate are harmoniously combined. Therefore, there is no need to delay the construction of these two important elements of a suburban area.

Typically, corrugated sheeting is done on the outside of a suburban area., but some people also install it on the side of the house for beauty. The sheets can have a height of 2 to 2.5 m, they come in different lengths, it is possible to choose one so that it covers the entire width of the gate leaf. Corrugated sheets are attached to the frame using metal screws or rivets; there are even special fasteners with caps to match the color of the coating: brown, green, blue. It is best to use self-tapping screws, as they prevent the penetration of moisture, so over time the sheets at the fastening points will not have rusty stains.

Finishing the gate's supporting frame with profiled sheets is quite simple. First they are attached along the contour, then screwed to the internal jumpers. The two sheets are connected to each other at the crest - the top of the wave.

If pillars made of solid wooden beams are chosen for the gate supports, then the installation of hinges or an iron frame must be done using bolts or anchors for wood 125 - 220 mm long.

The hinges are welded first onto the gate support posts made of corrugated sheets, then onto their frame at a distance of 20-30 cm from the edge. A couple of pieces are enough for each sash, but for reinforcement they often hang 3 pieces. Then the hinges are lubricated and the sashes are hung on supports. If all standards are carefully followed, the gate is ready for use.

After installing the gate, you can arrange and improve the surrounding area as much as possible: install lighting, an alarm system, if needed, and equip the moving part with automation.

For reliability and durability, you should choose powder-coated profile sheets. They are more expensive, but more resistant to external influences on the street. The good thing about polymer-coated metal profiles is that they come in many different colors. If there is already a fence around the summer cottage, then it is possible to choose the most suitable color for the gate.

Experienced craftsmen recommend using profile welded pipes 80 by 80 mm for poles, their thickness must be at least 3 mm. For gate leaves and lintels, products of 60 by 40, 40 by 20 and 20 by 20 mm are taken. The wall thickness can be 2 mm, but for beginners it is better to use 3 mm pipes, as they are easier to cook.

Before assembling the gate and installing it, we do the necessary preparation of the material: the surface is cleaned of rust with a grinder with a special attachment or a metal brush, then primed with an anti-corrosion primer and painted. It is better to paint in 2 layers, after the first has dried, apply the second and let it dry again before further work.

In addition to internal transverse or inclined lintels, the sashes can be strengthened with special corners.

To do this, small metal strips 3-4 cm wide are welded into each corner of the frame. This way the structure becomes more rigid, does not “walk” or make noise in strong winds.

Swing gates with corrugated sheets must be made in such a way that they have enough space to open completely. Since they usually open outwards, it is necessary to ensure that there is a level area in front of them, separated from the roadway. If there is very little space, then you usually have to make sliding or lifting gates with doors opening inward, which is not very convenient.

To prepare holes for metal supports, it is better to take a garden drill, since the use of a shovel increases the consumption of mortar under the foundation. The diameter of the pit should be 2 times larger than the cross-section of the pillar, and the depth should be at least a third of its height.

A mixture of sand and crushed stone 150-300 mm thick is first poured into the recess under the supports. This cushion is designed for water drainage and greater soil stability in frosty conditions. Then concrete is poured into the hole, which can be reinforced with reinforcing bars at a distance of 30-40 cm. The recess must be concreted gradually, constantly holding the support and checking the level. In warm, dry weather at a temperature of at least 10 degrees, the solution sets in 5 to 6 days.

All homeowners have to decide on fencing the site and creating a convenient entrance to the site for household members and guests. The requirements for wickets and gates are durability, beauty, ease of use, reliable protection from uninvited visitors and prying eyes. One of the most popular and easiest to implement options is a gate with a wicket made of corrugated sheets.

Profiled metal sheet has many advantages:

  • aesthetics - a large selection of colors and patterns allows you to choose a material that suits the overall design style of the house and site; even a single-color metal coating looks very stylish; imitation of natural stone or brick will give the gate a very prestigious look; There are also more exclusive drawings - flowers, plants, landscapes, paintings;
  • corrosion resistance – modern plastic coating will protect the metal from rust for many years;
  • strength;
  • low cost;
  • ease of installation of corrugated metal structures.

Types of structures made from corrugated sheets

A gate made of corrugated sheets can be located next to or separate from the gate. Wickets built into the gate leaf are no longer available due to their low aesthetics.

The design of wickets and gates can be different:

  • a simple rectangular frame with horizontal, oblique, crossed lintels; can be decorated at the top or bottom with a welded decorative grille;
  • frame of a complex original design made of forged metal against a background of corrugated sheets.

With a high fence above the gate with a height of more than two meters, a transverse crossbar can be installed, also sheathed with corrugated sheets; a small canopy can be installed to protect those entering from snow and rain when the lock is opened. The support posts can be metal or brick, depending on the overall design of the fence.

According to the method of opening, gates are traditionally made of swing gates; sometimes sliding gates with automatic opening are also found.

Options for gates made of corrugated sheets provide even more scope for design creativity: sliding and swinging, with forged elements, with polycarbonate and wood inserts.

The simplest do-it-yourself swing gate for a fence, accessible even to a novice home craftsman, has a simple rectangular design with metal supports. Its manufacture and installation are described below.

Preparatory stages

Before you make a gate from corrugated sheets with your own hands, you should think through the sequence of actions and prepare.

The first stage of preparation is determining the size of the gate. The height of the door depends on the height of the fence, but usually does not exceed two meters (two meters and ten centimeters if there are tall men in the family). If the fence is very high, then the gate is not made to cover the entire height of the fence, but lintels are made of a steel profile over the door and covered with corrugated sheets. The width of the opening is usually made one meter to ten centimeters - this width allows you to enter the area with large bags in your hands or bring in furniture. A larger gate width requires a heavier and stronger frame with additional crosspieces; not very convenient to open; there is a possibility of the door skewing during operation.

The second step is to think over the design of the door and support posts and draw a diagram with dimensions .

The third stage of preparation is to prepare materials and tools.

Materials and tools

To make a gate from corrugated sheets with your own hands, you will need the following materials:

  • corrugated sheeting with a polymer coating (acrylic, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polyurethane); recommended thickness 0.6-0.9 mm; The wave height is usually small - about 10 mm;
  • roofing screws with a rubber washer, painted to match the color of the sheet;
  • steel pipes measuring at least 80x80 mm for support posts; for a small gate without a gate, you can take a pipe measuring 60x60 mm; with a wall thickness of at least 3 mm; the pipe can be replaced with a structure of two U-shaped channels welded in the shape of a pipe;
  • steel pipes measuring 40x40 mm or 60x40 mm for the gate frame;
  • anti-corrosion primer;
  • weather-resistant exterior paint;
  • loops;
  • lock;
  • crushed stone, sand, cement for mortar;
  • gravel or crushed stone of medium fraction;
  • electrodes.

List of tools:

  • welding machine. You can use the services of a welder - but for the estate it is better to purchase a machine and learn how to do simple work yourself. The price of the device will pay off with interest over the years of operation, because the work of a welder is not cheap. For a home craftsman, it is enough to have an inverter welding machine with a welding current of 160-200 A;
  • angle grinder (grinder) with wheels for cutting and grinding metal;
  • drill and screwdriver - for drilling holes and tightening screws;
  • construction tape, metal ruler, level, construction square, plumb line, chalk, scriber;
  • clamps – necessary when assembling the frame, when installing hinges and a lock;
  • garden drill with a diameter of 250-300 mm - for drilling a hole for support posts;
  • concrete mixer or construction mixer and container for mixing concrete;
  • shovel - for loading bulk materials into a concrete mixer or for manual mixing of concrete;
  • bayonet and shovel shovels - for digging a hole if it is not possible to use a drill; a hole dug by hand will have uneven edges - this will increase the consumption of concrete;
  • crowbar - useful when digging pits for pillars to break up dense rock.

Step-by-step installation technology

Swing gate made of corrugated sheets The smallest and simplest fencing design, you can make it yourself, even if you are a beginner with little welding experience.

Foundation arrangement

Before pouring the foundation for the posts, you need to mark the centers of future holes in line with the fence using a cord. Then you need to dig or drill holes for the posts. The depth of the concrete foundation must be no less than the freezing depth of the soil, which in the middle zone is 1200 mm. Sand is poured into the bottom of the hole and compacted. The thickness of the sand cushion in the compacted state is 100 mm of sand, 200 mm of fine crushed stone or gravel is poured on top and also compacted. In total, the depth of the pit should be at least 1200 +100+200=1500 mm.

The recessed part of the racks is 1200 mm, so the workpieces are cut 1200 mm longer than the required height.

For stability, it is advisable to weld a square of steel sheet with a thickness of at least 4 mm and 1-2 jumpers from a corner or pipe to the bottom of the metal supports at a distance of 300 and 800 mm from the bottom edge of the supports. The lower part of the racks must be treated with bitumen mastic to a height of 1300 mm. Before pouring, the edges of the pit are covered with a layer of roofing felt - this allows you to separate the concrete from the ground, retain moisture in it during the maturation process and ensure the necessary strength of the finished concrete.

Installation of pillars

The pillars are installed in a well or hole at a distance equal to the width of the gate plus 5-10 mm (these are the gaps between the gate and the pillars), filled with concrete, carefully leveled in the vertical plane and in the plane of the fence and maintaining the exact distance between the doors using a building level and secured in this position using spacers. If the drill hole is narrow, you can wedge the posts in the hole using large stones. Sometimes temporary reinforcement struts and a crossbar at the top are welded, which are cut off after the concrete has set and the welding areas are cleaned. The finished concrete is carefully pierced with a crowbar or reinforcement so that air bubbles do not form inside the concrete. It is advisable to fill the inner surface of the pipe with concrete.

Pouring concrete will gain strength in 10-15 days, depending on the ambient temperature. Before the end of this period, work on installing the gate door should not be carried out - otherwise the gate will be damaged in the future. During the first days, the concrete surface must be moistened.

Concrete for the foundation is used grades M150 (B10) or M200 (B15). The composition of concrete is shown in the table:

When replacing cement grade 400 with 300, its quantity should be increased by a third; when replacing with grade 500, the amount of cement can be reduced slightly and take into account the fact that the concrete will harden somewhat faster.

Wicket frame

Installation of the fence and gate can be carried out simultaneously with the installation of the gate or at another time. When installing all fencing elements at the same time, it is easier to align them on the same line.

When cutting metal and welding, you can get injured, so you can’t start working without special clothing and protective equipment: a suit (a canvas suit is required for welding work), special gloves and canvas mittens, safety glasses (dark ones for welding work), boots.

Before welding, cut off the required pieces of pipe for the frame. The length of the main pipes along the perimeter of the frame is equal to the length and width of the gate; cuts are made at an angle of 45°. The frame jumper pipes are cut at an angle of 90°. Burrs on cuts should be cleaned, rust should be sanded off. This will improve the quality of the seam.

Welding work is performed on a flat horizontal surface. If there is no suitable table, then the work can be done by placing the pipes on a flat area (near the house there is usually a tiled or concreted area of suitable size). Identical supports, for example, made of timber, must be placed under the pipes. Then level the surface so that the frame parts located on them lie strictly horizontally. Ideally, you should cut an OSB sheet with dimensions 50 mm greater than the length and width of the gate frame, and secure the pipes to it with clamps. If there is no OSB sheet at hand, then the frame parts are connected to each other with clamps. Then you should check the correctness of the angles and location of the parts, and only then start welding. First, the frame is pinched at the corners, then the corners and diagonals are checked - they must be the same. This means that the pipes are positioned correctly relative to each other. Then the joints are welded with a continuous seam on one side.

When welding, the metal experiences strong thermal expansion, so after each operation it is necessary to control the correctness of the angles, the linear dimensions of the parts, and the location of the parts relative to each other. It is advisable to carry out welding intermittently so that the seams have time to cool and the frame does not “lead”.

After welding one side of the frame, allow the seams to cool, turn the frame over, remove the clamps and weld the second side of the frame. Allow the seams to cool and sand off the protruding part. The seams after painting should, if possible, be invisible. Then the cross members are installed - the so-called stiffeners. They can be positioned horizontally, obliquely, or crossed - it all depends on the size of the gate and the preferences of the master. The procedure for welding the crossbars is similar to the procedure for welding the frame: cut off pieces of pipe of the required length, cut off the corners if necessary, clean them, secure them with clamps, spot weld them, weld them, clean the seams. It is easier to weld pipes of greater thickness, so it is recommended to buy pipes with a wall thickness of at least 3 mm.

Frame installation

The frame is installed using cylindrical steel hinges. The weight of a gate made of corrugated sheets is small, and for its installation it is enough to use two or three hinges with a diameter of 30 mm; for larger and heavier gates, reinforced hinges with support platforms made of sheets at least 4 mm thick are used. The distance between the outer hinges should be approximately 400- 500 mm is less than the height of the gate (i.e. the distance from the top and bottom of the gate to the hinge will be 200-250 mm). The hinges on the poles can be welded before and after installation.

To weld the hinges, we adjust the doors to the posts, position them using wedges and a spacer-support made of timber at the bottom of the gate. The gap between the frame and the posts is 2.5-5 mm on both sides. First, the upper loop is applied and spot welded to the supports, then it is boiled. Then they grab the top loop to the gate frame. Then, in the same order, they grab the bottom hinge, check that the frame is hung correctly, weld the hinges, let them cool, and remove the stand and wedges. Check the height on the supports, trim them if necessary, and weld the hole on top of the pipe with a sheet of metal of the required size.

You can install a latch or a lock with a key on the gate. A mortise lock is preferable - it is more reliable when opening the gate outwards. Before inserting the lock, its dimensions are measured. Then they determine the location on the gate, mark the place where the slot needs to be made on the side surface of the pipe, and use a grinder with a small disk to cut a hole for the lock on both sides of the pipe. To protect the lock from precipitation and from breaking, the casing is welded and welded to the frame pipe. Then a lock is inserted into the hole in the pipe, points for attaching self-tapping screws, the locking cylinder mechanism, the handle axis are marked (if a lock with a handle is selected), and holes are drilled through in the casing. Then the door is closed, a place is marked for the lock bar on the support, and holes are drilled for the screws. Then the lock is removed.

Before covering with corrugated sheeting, the frame is sanded, treated with an anti-corrosion primer, and covered with two layers of weather-resistant paint for exterior use.

Sheathing with corrugated sheets is carried out second to last. The corrugated sheet is applied to the frame so that the deepened part of the wave lies on the frame from the side of the lock, the dimensions of the sheet and the dimensions of the cutouts for the hinges are determined. Then the sheet is cut using a grinder, places for the hinges are cut out, and a place is drilled for the cylinder and the axis of the lock handle.

The edge of the sheet must be processed with a file so that there are no burrs, treated with an anti-corrosion compound and coated with paint. Otherwise, it is from these places that corrosion of the sheet will begin.

The sheet is screwed with colored roofing screws with rubber washers into the lower part of the wave to the frame pipes; before screwing in the screws, it is advisable to drill holes with a drill. Lastly, the lock and lock plate are installed, and, if desired, a handle or a latch. That's it - the gate is ready

Using the step-by-step instructions outlined in this article, even an inexperienced home craftsman can make and install a popular and stylish gate from corrugated sheets with his own hands. Don’t be afraid to take on the work yourself - the one who walks will master the road. Good luck to you in your endeavors!

Increasingly, in private and suburban areas you can see gates made of metal profiles of a wide variety of shapes and sizes. This material has many advantages: strength, reliability, presentable appearance, long service life and low cost. Read below to learn how to make a gate from corrugated sheets yourself quickly and without extra costs.

How to choose the size of a gate made of corrugated sheets?

There are no strict mandatory standards or restrictions regarding the size of gates. However, when choosing them, you need to consider the following:

  1. The optimal width of a gate made of corrugated sheets is 1.0 m. This width of the opening allows you to easily bring furniture or other large items into the area. Moreover, if it is larger, this can lead to rapid wear of the hinges or skewing of the gate cloth.
  2. The height of the gate should not exceed 2.0 meters. If the fence around the site is high, then such a gate made of corrugated sheets will not look very good. In this case, in the opening between the support pillars above it, it is better to install additional crossbars with a metal profile insert. This will allow you not to overly weigh down the canvas of the gate itself.

Naturally, there are exceptions to these rules. For example, if your height or the height of someone in your family is above 2.0 meters, then making a gate from high-height corrugated sheets will be simply necessary. However, you should not forget about using special hinges and strengthening the frame with additional cross members.

Installation of support pillars

The first and one of the most labor-intensive stages of work is the installation of support posts on which the metal profile gate will be supported, with your own hands. This is not difficult to do, but it will take quite a lot of time, especially when it comes to brickwork.

There are two options for installing a fence made of profiled sheets. The first and simplest is the option of attaching the fence to poles made of metal pipes dug into the ground. In the second option, a fence with a gate and a wicket made of corrugated sheets is attached to pillars made of brick or stone.

Using metal support posts

The use of profiled sheets for the manufacture of entrance groups has become so widespread because making wickets and gates from corrugated sheets is very simple and inexpensive. Therefore, in the vast majority of cases, metal pipes are used as supports. They are much easier, cheaper and faster to install than brick ones.

Best suited for gate support posts profile pipe 80x80 mm with a wall thickness of 3-4 mm. To install them, holes are dug in the ground with a size of at least 300x300 mm and a depth of at least 1.0 m.

The depth of the holes depends on the type of soil where the pillars are installed. If the soil is rocky, then 70 cm will be enough. But if the soil is clayey, the depth of the holes should be no less than the freezing depth of the soil. In most regions of the middle zone it is 1.2 m.

be careful

Installing a gate made of corrugated sheets on insufficiently deepened pillars in heaving soil leads to serious deformations of the frame and canvas, the correction of which is often impossible.

Support pillars made of brick or stone

In this case, the dimensions of the foundation must be larger than the cross-section of the support column. Typically, such pillars are made of 1.5 bricks, that is, 390x390 mm. Therefore, the foundation must be no smaller than 500x500 mm. Since it is much more difficult to make such posts for a gate from corrugated sheets yourself, this option is chosen less often.

The brickwork itself does not withstand bending loads well, so to give the pillar additional strength, a metal pipe is installed in the hole before the foundation is poured with concrete. Around it the masonry is made of brick or stone. Metal embeds are welded to the same pipe, which are removed outside the masonry. Gates and wickets made of corrugated sheets will subsequently be installed on them.

The top of metal support posts should be capped to prevent moisture from entering the post. If you plan to install lamps near the gate, then before concreting the pillars in them, you need to tighten the wire in a corrugated pipe.

Preparing parts for the frame

While the concrete mixture in the foundations of the support pillars gains the necessary strength, you can start assembling the gate itself. Before you make a gate from corrugated sheets with your own hands, you need to make a frame for it.

For the frame they take profile pipe 40x40 mm or 60x30 mm. A light small gate can also be made from a 40x20 pipe, but then to give the frame the necessary rigidity, the pipe must be placed with its narrow side facing the corrugated sheet metal sheathing.

A layer of crushed stone is poured into the bottom of the pit and thoroughly compacted. Then the pillars are installed strictly vertically, using a level, and the hole is filled with concrete mixture. Gates and gates made from metal profiles can be hung on concreted pipes no sooner than after 5-6 days. This time is necessary for the concrete to gain at least 20-30% of its strength.

In order to avoid mistakes when preparing parts, before cutting the pipe it is better to first draw a sketch or make a drawing of a gate made of corrugated sheets with all the necessary dimensions. An example of such a drawing is given below.

Detailed drawing of a metal profile gate

The prepared pipe is cleaned of rust using a metal brush and cut into pieces of the required length. To assemble, the edges of the workpieces are cut at an angle of 45°.

In addition, in order to make a gate from corrugated sheets, it is necessary to cut one or two crossbars, depending on its height, which should fit closely between the large sides of the frame. This will make the structure more rigid and subsequently make it easier to install the lock.

Welding the gate frame

The workpieces are connected to each other by welding. To prevent the frame from being deformed, before making a gate from a profiled sheet, the blanks must be secured from a profile pipe in homemade conductor.

It's very easy to make:

  1. Take an OSB sheet with a thickness of at least 10 mm or a sheet of thick plywood.
  2. A canvas is cut out of it, the width and height of which must be at least 50 mm larger than the planned dimensions of the gate.
  3. Clamps are prepared that will hold the frame elements, pressing the metal profiles to the surface of the sheet. There should be twice as many clamps as welds.

Before welding a gate from corrugated sheets, all angles are carefully checked and the diagonals of the frame are measured. One or two crossbars are installed between the upper and lower lintels of the gate frame. Then clamps are installed, which should be located a short distance from the welding site.

Diagram of how to weld a gate from corrugated sheets using a jig made from an OSB board and clamps

After fixing all the frame elements on the jig, you need to once again check the angles and parallelism of the opposite sides of the frame. Then you can start welding. In this case, the clamps cannot be removed until the seams have completely cooled down - otherwise, temperature stresses in the metal can deform and even destroy the metal. After welding is completed, all joints are cleaned.

Thanks to this welding technology, even a complete beginner can make a gate from a corrugated sheet with his own hands. At the same time, even if you have some experience in welding, I do not recommend neglecting the fixation of the workpiece. Remember that making a new frame after accidental damage to the old one will take longer and will cost more than making a simple jig.

In small summer cottages, gates with a wicket made of corrugated sheets are often installed. All operations for assembling the wicket frame built into the door leaf are performed in the same way as those described above. The design of the gate is subject to change, in which an opening must be provided for installation. In addition, the need to build in a gate imposes certain restrictions on its height.

Installation of fittings on metal profile gates

After assembling the gate frame, but before covering the frame with a metal profile, hinges and plates are welded to the gate for installing a lock and handle, if necessary.

Hinges for gates made of corrugated sheets are installed towards each other and are secured with welds 1-2 cm long. The hinges are placed so that the canvas cannot be removed after final installation. With this installation, the gate can only be cut with a grinder. Attach the loops at a distance of 25-30 cm from the upper and lower edges of the canvas.

Installation of hinges on a gate made of corrugated sheets

When choosing a lock for a gate made of corrugated sheets, you must pay attention to the operating conditions specified by the manufacturer in the passport. The lock must be designed for outdoor installation. When choosing a lock core, preference should be given to those that can be opened from the inside without a key. This will save you from problems if the water in the castle freezes in winter.

When opening the door inward, the lock can be either mortise or overhead. If the gate opens outwards, only a mortise lock is placed on it. The lock and handle for a gate made of corrugated sheets are usually installed at a height of approximately 90 cm.

Of the mortise locks, the most convenient are special ones. narrow profile locks, intended for installation in profile pipes. The very principle of their installation partially protects them from moisture and dust, which increases their service life.

Narrow-profile lock for a gate made of corrugated sheets

Before cutting the lock into a gate made of corrugated sheets, you need to mark the location for its installation: a rectangular slot for the body and a circle for the core. In addition, it is better to immediately mark the attachment points for the handle. Next, the installation process is quite simple:

  1. Using a grinder, cuts are made along the long sides.
  2. Using a drill, holes are drilled along the short sides as close to each other as possible. It is necessary to drill not along the marking strip itself, but slightly inside the rectangle.
  3. To install a mortise lock in a gate made of corrugated sheets, the hole is brought to the desired shape using a file.
  4. Round holes for the core are cut out using a metal burr. If it is not available, you can also use contour drilling and finishing with a file.
  5. Holes for mounting screws are drilled.
  6. The area around the lock is cleaned of rust, primed and painted.
  7. The lock is installed on a gate made of corrugated sheets, but without linings - they are installed after the frame has been covered.

This completes the installation of the lock into the frame. However, since putting a lock on a gate made of corrugated sheets is only half the battle, the work does not end there. It is necessary to install the counter part into the support column. This stage is performed after installing the gate on the posts.

A clear example of how to insert a lock into a gate made of corrugated sheets (click to enlarge)

Additionally, a lock or latch can be installed on the gate made of corrugated sheets. Such solutions make sense both from the point of view of increasing safety and for convenience - especially if the gate is often used. In this case, it is easier to close it with a latch than to fiddle with the lock every time. You can also immediately purchase a lock with a latch and not install it separately.

How to install a gate made of corrugated sheets on support posts?

After several days have passed, the concrete mixture in the foundations of the support pillars has gained some of its strength, and the assembly of the frame is completed, you can install the gate from corrugated sheets.

To do this, place a wooden block under the frame. Using a level, the gate is set strictly vertically and the places where the second halves of the hinges are attached are marked on the support post. It must be remembered that for normal opening in winter, the canvas must be 100 mm higher than the surface of the track. Especially if you are installing a gate to a dacha made of corrugated sheets, where snow is rarely cleared in winter.

Having marked the installation locations of the hinges, they are temporarily attached to the support posts using electric welding. After checking the opening and closing of the gate, the hinges are welded with a continuous seam.

Consider

Installing a gate made of corrugated sheets with your own hands requires care and repeated double-checking, since without a “fresh look” from the outside it is easy to make a mistake.

If the gate is installed correctly, it should not open or close spontaneously. To prevent it from opening in both directions, a limiter is welded to the support opposite the hinges.

When the welding work is completed, all seams are cleaned using an angle grinder, and rust is removed from the frame and primed. Then they are painted twice with metal paint for exterior use. The main part of the lock installed in the frame must be covered with film or construction tape.

Metal profile gate frame mounted on poles

This is the penultimate stage before sewing, since you need to install a lock on the gate made of corrugated sheets and in the support post. To do this, the bolt is smeared with toothpaste and the lock is closed. After this, the place where the locking device should go will be marked on the pole.

If the lock is simple and there is no receiving block, then you just need to drill a hole of the desired shape and finish it with a file. If there is a receiving block, then you must first mark its location based on the location where the crossbar enters, and then, again, drill a hole of the desired shape. Then holes for fasteners are drilled and the mating part is installed.

Sewing a gate made of corrugated sheets

After the paint has dried, the gate canvas is sewn up with a profiled sheet. As a rule, wall corrugated sheeting C-20 or C-21 with a thickness of 0.5-0.6 mm is used for this. The use of sheets with a lower wave height is not recommended.

To fasten the corrugated sheets, roofing screws are used, less often - special rivets. Sometimes bolted connections are used for this, but this is not recommended, since in this case the necessary protection against corrosion is not provided for the web at the point where the bolt passes through the corrugated sheet. The sheets are fastened through each wave horizontally and into each transverse beam vertically.

A gate covered with corrugated sheets with closed corners

If desired, all sides of the gate made of corrugated sheets are covered with special square strips in the color of the corrugated sheet. This gives it a finished look and, in addition, provides additional protection for the frame from moisture.

After sewing the fabric, the pads for the lock are installed, as well as the handle for the gate made of corrugated sheets.

Wicket design made of corrugated sheets

After the frame is ready, it's time to think about the design. Despite the comparative simplicity of the design, there can be a lot of design options, including the use of decorative elements.

The simplest gate made of corrugated sheets is a rectangular frame made of a profile or round steel pipe, onto which a profiled metal sheet is attached. Such a gate is perfect for a fence made of corrugated sheets - it will fit especially well into the usual blind fencing of a summer cottage or personal plot. This solution also looks good with a fence made of brick or stone, including when used as supports for pillars made of these materials.

A gate made of corrugated sheets with forging will look even more beautiful. In this case, the profiled sheet will serve as a kind of background for decorative forged parts. In addition, if forged elements cover the entire opening, they strengthen the frame of the gate and make it more resistant to burglary.

A forged gate from corrugated sheets can be made with your own hands without any problems. Nowadays, ready-made decorative forged parts can be purchased at almost any building materials store. The main thing is not to overdo it with forged elements, so that the gate canvas does not look colorful and overloaded with decor.

To begin with, it is better to draw a sketch of the design of the gate. The parts purchased in accordance with the sketch are laid out on the canvas and welded to the frame, starting with the largest and ending with the smallest. However, such gates made of corrugated sheets with forging elements look much worse than the products of real specialists.

A gate made of corrugated sheets with forging - a photo of some forged elements made on production lines, as well as a simple sketch that can be implemented using them.

Firstly, professional artistic forging allows you to produce very elegant and thin elements that cannot be produced industrially. Secondly, the range of ready-made elements is very limited. And thirdly, a forged gate with corrugated sheets, made by a professional, can reflect any idea and is stylistically integral, unlike composite products.

Finally, the gate can be either a separate object or part of the gate. Thus, swing gates with a wicket made of corrugated sheets are often used. This decision is justified if for some reason you are very limited in the size of the entrance group - for example, you are replacing an old gate and want to install new ones on the same support pillars.

When making your own gate

If you did all the work on installing and assembling the gate yourself, you will only have to pay for the materials that were needed for this. Usually the final cost is up to 2000-2500 rubles.

But you don’t have to make the gate yourself. You can buy gates made of metal profiles in the construction departments of most supermarkets. Ready-made gates made of corrugated sheets can also be purchased from specialized companies engaged in the manufacture of metal structures. There you can order the production of such a product according to your own sketch, while receiving free technical advice. When such a gate made of corrugated sheets is installed, its price will be from 4,500 rubles, excluding the cost of locks and hinges.

If for some reason you also had to hire specialists to install a gate made of metal profiles, the price of such work in different regions of the Russian Federation will be from 2100 to 2500 rubles. And this also does not include the cost of installing a lock.

Installation of gates made of corrugated sheets with a wicket is the simplest and most cost-effective option. Profiled sheets are very popular among summer residents and owners of private houses. There are several reasons for this: this material has an acceptable price for the consumer, it can be easily cut into sheets of the required size and fixed on a wooden or metal base.

This is what a corrugated gate with a built-in wicket looks like

Owners of private houses want not only to protect their territory from entry by unauthorized persons, but also to make it aesthetically attractive. These tasks are easiest to accomplish using a fence and gate made of corrugated sheets. The construction of the first rarely causes difficulties, but with the installation of the entrance group a number of questions inevitably arise. Among the first is the choice of gate type.
There are two options for the gate device:

  1. To the right or left of the gate.
  2. Directly in one of the gate leaves.

In the first case, to install the gate you will need to install additional support. The second option is advantageous in that 2 (not 3) pillars are enough to install an entrance group, which significantly reduces labor and financial costs.

Original design and decoration with forged elements of gates made of corrugated sheets with a wicket
inside the sash - the most convenient solution for a design with an automated entry control system. Before you start building a fence for your site, you need to decide on the type of gate. The following options for installing the sashes are possible:

  • lifting

Any of the listed types of structures can be equipped with an automated control system. The first option is the most popular due to the simplicity and low cost of its device. Regardless of the type of gate chosen, at the planning stage of the upcoming work you will need to find out the following points for yourself:

The fence can be built using wooden, metal or brick support posts. Each of these materials has its own advantages. So, wood is advantageous because it is the easiest to access. To work with it you will need a welding machine and skills to work with it. reliable and aesthetically attractive, but require significant financial and labor costs.

Scheme with dimensions of a gate frame made of corrugated sheets with a wicket

A fence with such supports looks presentable, but its construction will take much more time than in the case of metal supports. In order to make the gate impregnable to outsiders, it is necessary to exclude the possibility of opening the doors from the outside of the fence.

This requirement is relevant not only for sliding and automated gates, but also for swing gates. It is extremely important to choose the right brand of profiled sheet. If this material is thin, dents and scratches will inevitably remain on it during operation, which will reduce the aesthetic appeal of the structure.

Selection and calculation of materials for gate construction

Do-it-yourself installation of corrugated gates is easiest, using metal pipes or wooden beams as supports. , wall thickness - at least 2 mm.

In order for wooden poles to be reliable and durable, you should choose timber 15X15 cm or 20X20 cm. Wood must be treated with a fire-retardant compound, and metal with an anti-corrosion compound.

The fence will be as stable as possible if you correctly calculate the step of installing the supports and select their desired cross-section. For areas with complex terrain, the distance between supports should not exceed 2 m. For flat areas without slopes and elevation changes, you can increase the interval to 3 or 3.5 m. In order to find out the required number of supports, the perimeter of the site is divided by the value the optimal step between supports in a particular case.

Gate design option with a wicket made of corrugated sheets

The length of the pipes is calculated based on the fact that one third of the support should be immersed in the ground. The above-ground part should include the selected height of the gate and the gap between it and the soil. So, if a house owner wants to build a fence 2 m high, he will need pipes or beams 2.7-2.8 m long. When choosing a profiled sheet, you need to pay attention to its brand. There are several of them:

  • "N" (carrying);
  • “NS” (load-bearing wall);
  • "C" (wall).

Material of grades “N” and “NS” due to its thickness has higher strength. Therefore, it will be able to withstand a greater load. But this parameter is not decisive in the choice of material. Therefore, it makes no sense to overpay for a load-bearing or load-bearing wall profiled sheet. It is enough to choose the brands “C8”, “C10” or “C20”.
It is important to take into account the dimensions of the gate and wicket.

The corrugated sheet should protrude beyond the frame of the sash by 10-12 cm. The optimal wave height of the metal sheet is 2-2.5 cm. Manufacturers produce corrugated sheets 12 m long. When ordering material in a store or warehouse, it is recommended to indicate the size required for the construction of the fence and gates made of corrugated sheets with your own hands.

They will be cut from standard 12-meter sheets. In order not to overpay for unnecessary remnants of this expensive material, it is recommended to choose a sash area that is a multiple of 12. When purchasing materials, do not forget that screws and metal hinges will be required to fix the profiled sheet.

Any fence around an individual development site must have a conveniently equipped entrance for people and a gate for vehicle entry into the territory. At the same time, the design of wickets and gates must be strong enough to provide, if necessary, protection from the entry of strangers. One of the popular materials that meets these requirements is a metal profiled sheet or corrugated sheet, mounted on a frame made of a profile steel pipe and angle.

According to the opening method, gates made of profile pipes and corrugated sheets can be sliding or swinging. A single sliding gate leaf moves to the side along the line of the installed fence of the site. Moving such a structure can be done manually, but more often a mechanical drive with an electric motor is installed for this purpose.

The main advantage of sliding gates is that they do not require free space on the street or yard side to open them. However, with large dimensions of the canvas, it is necessary to strengthen the entire structure or install special elements so that the side farthest from the load-bearing support does not sag down under its own weight.

Swing structures

These are simpler gates made of corrugated sheets with a wicket, consisting of 1 or 2 rotating leaves, each of which is installed on a separate support post. The gate for the passage of people can be mounted separately or located on the surface of one of the doors.

Thanks to its simple design, you can make swing gates from corrugated sheets yourself and install them yourself.

Gate sizing

The accepted width of swing structures depends on the overall dimensions of the car that will drive through them. To this size it is necessary to add 1200-1500 mm to simplify the possibility of entering with a turn from the street, or 800-900 mm if there is a direct access road in front of the gate.

In addition, you need to take into account the width of the profiled sheet, which will reduce the amount of scraps and metal waste in the manufacture of gates to a minimum.

The overall dimensions of most passenger car models do not exceed 2000 mm, on average it is 1700-1900 mm. Based on this we can say that the optimal width of swing gates is in the range of 4000-4500 mm taking into account the overall dimensions of the support pillars. The width of the gate convenient for people to pass through is usually taken to be 1200 mm.

The height of swing gates depends on the length of the profiled sheet, which in the standard version is 2000 mm. When adding to this value the gap between the doors and the ground we get a height in the range of 2150-2250 mm. An elevated position above the ground is necessary to be able to open in the presence of ice or snow in winter.

Drawing of a gate made of corrugated sheets.

What to make gates, wickets and pillars from

Calculation of the required amount of materials for a gate with a wicket made of corrugated sheets can only be done on the basis of a drawing of the gate, which contains the following data:

  • the width of the opening between the support pillars;
  • dimensions of swing doors;
  • configuration of the supporting frame of the sashes, indicating the material and cross-section of its constituent elements;
  • number, location and dimensions of support pillars;
  • installation location and dimensions of the gate;
  • mounting locations for welded hinges;
  • information about the lock and fasteners.

If necessary, structural reinforcement elements should be added to the drawing to increase resistance to wind loads. The kit includes:

  • profiled sheet for cladding;
  • steel pipes 60x60 mm with a wall thickness of 2.5-3.0 mm for installation as a support post for pillars;
  • profile pipes 40x40 mm or 60x20 mm for assembling the supporting frame of the doors and gates;
  • self-tapping screws with a hexagonal head for securing the corrugated sheet;
  • metal sheet or strip for making scarves and mortgages;
  • welded mesh for reinforcing brick masonry pillars;
  • hinges, latch locks and bottom latches;
  • primer, paint, solvent;
  • welding electrodes.

Reinforcement of the frame structure is carried out using a 20x20 mm profile pipe or an equal-flange angle of the same size. For additional artistic decoration of the gates, you can purchase forged decorative elements that will be welded along the upper edge of the gates.

Characteristics of corrugated sheeting for gates and fences.

Marking and excavation work

In order to mark the placement of support pillars, it is necessary to determine the location of the gate. When it is installed separately, there will be 3 pillars, and when the sash is built into the leaf, 2 supports are enough.

If a fence has already been installed around the property, stretch the cord between its outer posts. The position of the thread will indicate the position line of the fence made of corrugated sheets with gates and wickets, and will also allow you to mark the installation locations of the pillars in accordance with the prepared drawing.

The load-bearing basis of the brick pillar is a 60x60 mm profile pipe.

For its vertical installation and subsequent concreting, you need to drill 2 or 3 holes in the ground. Drill diameter 120-140 mm. Digging holes with a shovel will increase their size and waste concrete. The depth of the pit must be at least 1/3 of the height of the installed rack.

Materials for making support pillars

After completing the excavation work, you can begin installing poles for hanging gate leaves and wickets. They can be made from:

  • steel round or profile pipes with a cross section of 150 mm;
  • asbestos-cement pipes with a diameter of at least 200 mm;
  • finished reinforced concrete products of appropriate shape;
  • natural stone;
  • building blocks;
  • red clay or silicate brick.

The most reliable, beautiful and affordable do-it-yourself construction for gates made of corrugated sheets are brick supports. Their masonry is reinforced with a metal stand in the form of a 60x60 mm profile pipe and welded reinforcing mesh.

The procedure for erecting brick pillars

Clean the profile pipe of the required length from traces of rust, if any, and paint it in two layers. After that:

  1. pour a 100 mm thick layer of crushed stone and a 50 mm layer of sand into the hole, compact the bulk material well;
  2. prepare concrete from cement, sand and crushed stone in a component ratio of 1:3:4(5);
  3. assemble the formwork;
  4. Install the metal stand vertically and concrete it.

Fixation of the rack strictly vertically can be ensured using spacers of a metal rod or fittings.

The upper plane of the concrete pour should be 50-100 mm above ground level. To do this, formwork is installed, the edges of which should extend beyond the dimensions of the future pillar by 50-70 mm. After concrete hardening:

  1. cover the surface with waterproofing material or bitumen mastic;
  2. lay a layer of mortar and lay the first row of 4 bricks;
  3. after 4-5 rows, weld a metal rod with a mounting plate to a vertical metal post to secure the rotary hinges.

The laying of subsequent rows is carried out with the obligatory bandaging (overlapping) of the lower vertical seams. Every 3-4 rows, place a reinforcing mesh that can be placed over the top of a steel vertical post. The thickness of the seams is 8-10 mm.

Constantly monitor the vertical position of the masonry using a building level or plumb line. 2-3 embedded plates should be installed on the surface of each pillar on the sash side. Their number depends on the size and total weight of the structure.

Assembly of frames of doors and gates

On a flat surface, draw or mark a rectangle corresponding to the size of the gate leaf. To check the accuracy of right angles, measure both diagonals of the rectangle. They must be absolutely the same. Weld an outer frame from a profile pipe of the main section, cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

Strengthening the frame is carried out by installing transverse and diagonal jumpers from a profile pipe of a smaller cross-section or angle.

If the gate for a fence made of corrugated sheets is located on the plane of the sash, you need to weld two vertical posts from a pipe of the main section and one horizontal one at a height corresponding to the dimensions of the entrance inside the frame. The welded stand on which the hinges for hanging the gate will be located is best made from two vertical pipes welded together.

Clean all welds to a smooth surface using a grinder. Remove rust, if any, from the metal surface, traces of dirt, oil and paint it 2 times with exterior paint.

Fastening the loops

Installation of gate leaves and gates is carried out on large garage hinges. Initially, all hinges are electrically welded to the embedded plates on the support posts. The weld is made along the entire length of the fastening edge.

When installing, make sure that the central part of the hinge does not fall into the gap between the post and the sash. Before hanging the gate on its hinges, do not forget about a sufficient amount of lubricant, which should work in a wide range of temperatures and not be washed away by water.

Installation of accessories

A complete set of swing gate fittings may include the following devices:

  • locks with which you can securely close gates and gates from any side;
  • lower clamps necessary to hold the lower part of the sashes in a stationary position and partially relieve the load from the lock;
  • a latch or bolt for locking the gate from the inside;
  • mechanical drive and automatic remote control;
  • lighting, alarm and external surveillance camera.

The installed lock can be padded, overhead or mortise. Mortise locks are installed completely or partially inside the profile pipe from which the sash frame is welded. Sometimes overhead metal boxes are used for such installation.

Bottom clamps.

Fastening the profiled sheet

In simple designs, corrugated sheeting is mounted on the outside of swing gates. A more complex and heavier, but beautiful and neat option involves cladding on both sides. Laying sheets is carried out with the obligatory overlap of adjacent sheets into one common wave.

Fastening is carried out using special roofing screws for a hexagonal bit with a washer and a rubber gasket. In this case, the fasteners are screwed not only into the frame around the perimeter, but also into all horizontal and diagonal jumpers.

Cross-shaped jumpers.

The recommended spacing between fastening hardware is 80-100 mm. Instead of self-tapping screws, you can use rivets that can be installed on one side using a special tool. This will cost more, but will avoid corrosion of the fasteners and the possible formation of rusty streaks over time.

Nuances of installing built-in gates

A gate located on one of the gate leaves is less convenient for everyday use than a free-standing one, but it allows:

  • reduce the cost of installing swing gates;
  • reduce the size of the required opening in the fence;
  • refuse to install a third support pillar.

Diagram of a gate with a wicket in one of the leaves.

The opening for the gate can be located at the edge near the support post, in the center of the plane of the leaf, or closer to the middle of the gate.

It is possible to manufacture gate leaves of different sizes, when the smaller one will be used as a gate. In terms of cost, this option is the most low-budget. However, one should take into account the increase in weight load on the support column on which the larger sash will be attached.

When installing a gate on the plane of the gate leaf, the presence of lower clamps in the fittings kit is mandatory.
